Manage Components

Components consist of multiple pieces that are meant to stay together. For example, a biology textbook might come with an anatomical skeleton and three posters or a bundle of a study guide, workbook, and marker. Or, a tablet has a charger and case.

Catalogers can add components to any type of resource, including consumables. To check out, check in, or inventory a resource with components, you only need to barcode or scan the biology textbook or tablet, and confirm every component is accounted for.

Use the following steps to add components to a resource description record:

  1. Search for and select the resource to add components to.
  2. On the Resource Details page, click Components.
  3. In the Component field, type a name.
  4. In the Quantity field, type the number, such as 1.
  5. In the Reference ID field, type an identifying number for the component, such as the serial number.
  6. In the Price field, type the component price.
  7. Select the Fineable checkbox to charge a fine if the resource is returned without the component.

Note:  See fineable components when you:

    • Review resource details.
    • Check out items.
    • Check in items.
    • View fines. (Destiny Discover users can see component fines, too.)
    • View classes.
    • View inventory.
    • View lost items.
  8. Click Save.
  9. To add another component, repeat steps 3-8; otherwise, click Cancel.

Note: The components appear in the Components section of the Resource Details page.
